JASNA-NC Outing to JC Raulston Arboretum

NC Region

24 Apr

On April 2, 2022, members of JASNA-NC came to JC Raulston Arboretum for a chance to meet up and take in the sights of Spring at JC Raulston Arboretum. We gathered together to read passages from Austen’s writings and took in the “most perfect refreshment”: time together, natural beauty, and Jane Austen!

Co-Regional Coordinator Sara Tavela and member Mary Curry (who just finished writing a book on Austen and nature!) led the event, giving insights on the natural context of Austen’s work. The group enjoyed taking the time to revel in the glories of Spring and of Jane Austen’s prose. Thank you to Suzanne Voigt, who filmed the event for us to all enjoy!

‘To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment.’

Hi, friends! Due to an unavoidable conflict we need to postpone our Virtual Book Club meeting, originally scheduled for this Sunday. Hopefully you won't mind a little more time to enjoy reading Devoney Looser's book, Wild for Austen. Her research and observations are fascinating and there is much to learn, so enjoy this extra time. Our Virtual Book Club is now scheduled for Sunday, June 7, 2026 as our June meeting. Our apologies for having to reschedule, and we hope you have a wonderful week and weekend!—Sara Tavela & Linda Darden, Co-Regional Coordinators(jasna.ncarolina@gmail.com) ... Our May meeting will be held on May 17 from 2:00 to 3:30 and is our Virtual Book club. Those who attended the Virtual Conference got a sampling of Devoney Looser's Wild for Austen from the author herself. It was fascinating and her book was the choice for our reading this next month. We will have a great time discussing her research and observations, so plan to join us! You can register at this link: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/jHW1d3uLTeCTzhltLRWRgQ ... See MoreSee Less
