The Jane Austen Summer Program is hosting “A Day Out With Emma” on Dec. 3, starting at noon, in Chapel Hill, N.C. This day of presentations, holiday shopping, crafts and more culminates in an evening performance of “Emma” by the acclaimed PlayMakers Repertory Company. The play is the third by Kate Hamill, known for her adaptations of “Pride & Prejudice” and “Sense & Sensibility.”
Attendees will: hear presentations by scholar Peter Graham (“Finding Mr. Right in Emma (and in Life)”) and Virginia-Claire Tharrington (Emma adaptations); get an inside look at the PlayMakers production during a Q&A with a cast or crew member; create their own fascinators; shop for Austen-centric holiday gifts; and enjoy tea, wine and other refreshments before taking a seat in our reserved section of the theater for the play.
There are three attendance options:
— Box Hill ($150): “At Christmas every body invites their friends and thinks little of even the worst weather.” Celebrate the holidays in style with our Box Hill package, featuring admission to all pre-show talks and activities, plus reserved group seating for the play.
